Day 14 of OctPoWriMo shared the prompt – Shameful. I am a day late in posting this, but the prompt spoke to me from an experience with a long removed family member. The form is a Villanelle.
I Grew
I heard the words so shameful.
Felt each sting and barb you threw,
Your actions were more than disgraceful.
You represent the ultimate betrayal,
Your soul proved what I always knew.
I heard the words so shameful.
You claim to hold beliefs so faithful,
Yet all your actions speak of unmentionable taboo.
Everything you project is so painful.
The truth I spoke you declared disdainful,
Belittled and shamed, I bade you adieu.
I heard the words so shameful.
Finally, my heart opened, so grateful
For all the beauty I found anew,
I soared and sang with power so graceful.
Owning my strength and power so bountiful,
From weariness and torment, I grew.
I heard the words so shameful.
But now I live a life of joy, meaningful.
